Can’t…quite…kill them.

Two encounters and two encounters only tonight. Mostly because I nearly murdered the party with the first one, but ran out of HP before I could quite manage it. Kruthiks brought most of them low, but they managed to flank and strike a couple and turn the tide. Fleazards made the party sad.

Slime Time didn’t quite kill them all. The fighter was dropped in this combat, too, after Slimy decided it was done being marked. I think I need to stop treating Marks as quite so significant, because really, dotting up the party would have made the cleric more frantic. as it was, there was sadness, lots of sadness, because slimes are bad for your health.

Moving right along…

So lessee. Things of note:

– My D&D group got to second level, annihilating the last bit of the ‘training encounters’, as I’ve been calling them, shorthanded. I think they’re getting used to the system.
– D&D Insider released the beta version of the character creator. Still has some bugs, but notably, it’s a desktop application, produces polished, rules-consistent characters which _can_ be house-ruled as you wish, and prints action cards with character specific details. Is pretty slick.
– Bought Dominion, a slick card-engine type game designed to have high replayability and expandability. I’m enjoying it a lot.
– Been paying steady attention to Mutants and Masterminds the last few weeks in my spare time. I think I’ve gotten to the point that it’s time to brainstorm worlds to play in. As expected, my pen is full of tropes; hoping I can get them out of there with a bit of effort and start writing stuff that doesn’t immediately scream “You’ve been playing Squaresoft games while watching Heroes and reading bad urban fantasy!” I’d prefer that kind of revelation to take a while and not make people groan when they realize it…

On call right now, so generally stressing. Also going up tonight to see Ty for his 26th. He’s doing pretty awesome right now, so maybe, just maybe we can get through tonight without arguing. Here’s hoping!

Chicken Curry

Spent most of today cooking. A triple batch of chicken curry for game this week was most of our effort; I had to rewrite my Mom’s curry recipe again from the index cards. Forgot the raisins again, but end result is very tasty.

Chicken Curry

3 lbs. skinless, boneless chicken
¼ c. butter
1 ½ c. chicken broth
3 cloves garlic, pressed
1 large onion, chopped
1 large apple, chopped
3 T. curry powder
¼ c. flour
¼ t cardamom
1 lime and peel, grated.
1 t salt
¼ t pepper
1 t ginger
½ c raisins
¼ c. mango chutney

Brown chicken in butter, in batches, 5 minutes per side. Return it all to the skillet, add chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, melt 3T butter in a saucepan, add 3T curry powder, mix, and add the garlic, onion, and apple. Saute for about 5 minutes or so, until the onion is starting to look translucent.

Once the chicken’s been in the broth for 20 minutes, add the flour, cardamom, ginger, salt and pepper to the saucepan, then transfer the broth to the saucepan. Add the raisins, lime peel and juice, then bring the sauce back to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.
Add the chicken and chutney, stir, and heat gently just to a boil. Serve over saffron rice.
