Had a good day today. Debbie, Becky’s best friend, organized a mob to go to the Exploratorium. Becky couldn’t go, but I did. I drove up and got on BART at Fremont, and rode to the Montague stop.
At about this point, I read the instructions on the last step of the trip, and noticed that it was directing me onto a bus to get from Market and 2nd to the Exploratorium… and a particularly damaged part of my brain piped up with ‘Screw that, you don’t have the exact change for the bus. Walk it!’.
By the time I realized how bad an idea this was, I was halfway across town, having walked up to Van Ness on my way to Lombard. My Blackberry gave me directions that would’ve made perfect sense if I was a car, and I followed them to a T. It was about 3 miles as the moron meanders. I’m done walking for a while.
The Exploratorium is awesome as always, and I continue to recommend the Tactile Dome to all and sundry if you can remember to reserve it. This is the part that made the whole day worth it.
On the drive back, I was starting to hurt from the long walk, and wasn’t paying close enough attention; as I got onto 1, I noticed I was doing almost 90. I slowed down, and thought ‘damn, I deserved a ticket for that one.’
So a CHiPpie gave me one. Very obliging. Guess I get to go plan for traffic school sometime soon.
I’m melting! It’s hot… or I’m a weenie. Or both.
Doesn’t help that I decided after we got home from dinner that I was going to deal with the mess o’ boxes in the back room. They’ve been herded back into the corners, such that I might walk through the room without fear of live burial.
Tangent – My step-grandfather read Poe’s story about being buried alive to me at age 12 or so… I’m amazed I’m not permanently scarred, other than nevereverever wanting to read that one again.
Falling – the James Ernest card game – has been out for a decade now. I think I got it shortly after it came out, so I feel old. My old copy is pretty well worn, but damnit, not a decade well worn… I think. A new edition’s been made with all goblins, instead of folks who look like they took the wrong turn for the airplane lavatory. Lacks impact, somehow. I just can’t sympathize much with the gobbos.
Again, thank god it’s friday. This week was rough, though today was another nice little payoff – I got to test out Wily Introscope, a JVM monitoring solution I like a lot, and wave it in front of local management, who looked suitably impressed. Everyone I’m not hitting is getting George, our senior support guy out east, waving it at them, so I think between us we’re going to get this thing in. Yay!
